‘নাটকের প্রাণবন্ত সংস্কৃতিটাকে এগিয়ে নিয়ে যেতে পারে, এমন পেশাদারি বা পরীক্ষামূলক থিয়েটার আহমেদাবাদে হচ্ছিল না। এ ছাড়াও রাজনৈতিক বা প্রতিষ্ঠানবিরোধী নাটক করার জন্য যে সুরক্ষাটা দরকার, সেটাও ছিল অত্যন্ত সীমিত। এই অভাবগুলো দূর করার প্রচেষ্টাই করে স্ক্র্যাপইয়ার্ড।’ নতুন থিয়েটারের গল্প।
‘প্রাচ্য-পাশ্চাত্যের সংমিশ্রণের কারণে অনিবার্যভাবেই সত্যজিতের সিনেমার বহু দিকই ভারতের বাইরের দর্শকের কাছে অচেনা বা দুর্বোধ্য হয়ে পড়ে। সত্যজিতের দর্শনমনস্ক অন্তিম সিনেমা ‘আগন্তুক’-এ ‘নাসা’র সঙ্গে ‘নেশা’-র যে ‘পান’, তার মর্ম কতজন আন্তর্জাতিক দর্শক বুঝবেন?’ পাশ্চাত্য আর সত্যজিৎ।
‘চাকরি নিয়ে বাবা কলকাতায় চলে যাওয়ার বেশ কিছুদিন পরে আমরা, অর্থাৎ মা, দিদি আর আমি কলকাতায় যাই। তার আগে অবশ্য বিস্তর কান্নাকাটি, হা-হুতাশের ব্যাপার ছিল। বিশেষ করে আমার জন্য দাদুর হাহাকার। আর আমার ব্যক্তিগত বিরহ ছিল ময়মনসিংহের জন্য।’ ময়মনসিংহ থেকে কলকাতা।
‘শেষে যখন হাল ছেড়ে দেওয়ার অবস্থা, অরুণবাবু বললেন— ‘একটা লাস্ট ট্রাই নেওয়া যাক, আমাকে একটা টেবিল জোগাড় করে দে।’ টেবিল এল, তাতে চড়ে অরুণবাবুর সে কী নাচ আর গান! সঙ্গে নানা রকম অঙ্গভঙ্গি। লোকাল আর্টিস্টরা হেসে খুন, হাততালির হররা, ওকে টেক।’ অ্যাসিস্ট্যান্টের কথা।
