Viswanathan Anand, about whom no adjective is enough, talked to DaakBangla on several topics. India’s first Grandmaster, the five-time world champion commented on how chess can be popularised, how the gender gap in chess can be bridged, how mobile phones (or a Netflix series) can attract young minds to chess, and how this is the best time to choose chess as a career.

‘পর্বতারোহণ খুবই ঝুঁকিপূর্ণ এক খেলা। বিপদের আশঙ্কা এখানে প্রতি পদে। সাফল্য আর ব্যর্থতার মাঝের ফাঁক এখানে খুবই সামান্য। খুবই তুচ্ছ কারণে কোনও অভিযান বাতিল করে ফিরে আসতে হতে পারে। তা সে গ্যাস স্টোভ বিগড়ে যাওয়া হোক কিংবা তাঁবুর কোনও পোল বা স্টিক ভেঙে যাওয়া।’ পর্বতারোহণের খুঁটিনাটি।

গানে কান্না-সিলিন্ডার উঠছে, এবং সামনের পার্কে ইউএফও নামছে। আর গল্পে, জ্যাক আর জিল পাহাড়ের চুড়ো থেকে জল আনতে গিয়ে, হোঁচট খেয়ে গড়িয়ে একদম নীচে পড়ে যাওয়ার পর, জিল যদি-বা উঠতে পারে, জ্যাক কিছুতেই আর পারে না। তার কোমর ভেঙে গেছে। তাহলে তার ভাগ্যও কি ভেঙে গেল
‘আজিজে যেটা সংকুচিত হয়ে উঠেছে সেটা হচ্ছে আড্ডা। আগে হাত-পা ছড়িয়ে কেতাবি দুরস্তের ধার না ধেরেও এখানে-সেখানে বসে সুবিধামতো আড্ডা দেওয়া গেছে। এখন সেসব জায়গা সংকুচিত, ফলে আড্ডাও ম্রিয়মান। আড্ডা এখন বসছে বুক ক্যাফেতে।’ বইয়ের দোকানের আড্ডা।
‘ছলনা ব্যাধের সঙ্গী। যেরকম রুমাল, তোমার।/ ফেলে কবে গেছ আর তারই সুগন্ধের জেরে আমি/ এ-শহরে বাসা নিই। আসলে শিকার হই তার…/ যে-নিজরহস্য নিয়ে আজও অরণ্যের অনুগামী।’ নতুন কবিতা।
